Learn to speak Chinese.

 

Students of the Chinese Language Programme of the ISS August Session will be able to learn Putonghua and acquire pragmatic competence through lessons and immersion activities.  It embraces language learning and cultural immersion, and offers a remarkable experience for non-native Chinese learners.

4 levels of Putonghua courses are available to train students’ skills in the following areas:

Vocabulary, Grammar, Speaking

Each level consists of two 3-credit courses and carries 6 credits in total.  Simplified Chinese characters will be used in lessons.

Experience the university residential life.

 

Double or triple occupancy rooms on-campus are guaranteed for ISS participants.  All rooms are modestly furnished with free air-conditioning and high-speed internet.  There are also shared bath, cooking and laundry facilities.  Staying in a hostel is optional, but you are strongly encouraged to live on-campus so you can interact with local students and other international students from different cultural backgrounds.

    1) All fees paid are non-refundable.  The caution money and hostel deposit (if applicable) will be refunded in late October if there is no outstanding payment.  2) To be considered as an exchange student, your home institution must have an existing exchange agreement with CUHK and has officially nominated you for exchange.  3) The administration fee covers orientation, farewell and cultural activities.  4) The on-campus accommodation fee does not include a meal plan.  4) The visa fee covers a student visa to Hong Kong.  All exchange students will be required to pay the visa fee through the online application system upon confirmation of registration.  The following students will receive a refund for any visa fee overcharged: Hong Kong residents who do not need a student visa; students attending more than one session; and current students in the International Asian Studies Programme (IASP) who extend their study at CUHK.

    You can apply for the ISS as an EXCHANGE STUDENT If you are studying at one of our exchange partners and have been nominated for exchange.  Please contact the study abroad office of your home institution for details about nominations.

    Application Period: 10 February (9:00 am) – 31 May 2017

    Application Procedure:

    Step 1
    Submit your application HERE and upload the completed Exchange Application Record Form, the Language Background Form (if you plan to enrol in a Chinese language course) and your latest transcript.  You might also need to provide additional information on your academics and English proficiency.  Send the hardcopies of the completed application forms and documents to your home institution if necessary.

    Step 2
    You will receive your application result by email, normally within 10 working days.

    Step 3
    Confirm your course(s) offered and pay the fees HERE within 3 working days after your application is approved (we accept Visa and MasterCard).

    Step 4
    Logon to your online application account to download your welcome pack 3 working days after you have settled the payment.

    Step 5
    Apply for a student visa, if you are not a resident of Hong Kong.  Return the Confirmation of Acceptance and other required documents for student visa application, to CUHK by courier (FedEx, DHL or UPS) before the deadline.  Processing a student visa takes time, so please do it immediately after you have all the documents ready.

    Step 6
    You’re all set!  Brace yourself and enjoy the summer at CUHK!

    If you are accepted to the ISS, you may be asked to submit an original/certified true copy of your university transcript/letter of admission to undergraduate studies for verification.  Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the ISS and all fees paid will NOT be refunded.

  • For non-local fee-paying students

    You can apply for the ISS as a NON-LOCAL FEE-PAYING STUDENT if you fall into one of the categories below:

    1. Full-time undergraduate students from a non-CUHK exchange partner
    2. Students studying at a CUHK exchange partner but are NOT nominated for exchange
    3. High school seniors who has received a confirmed offer from a recognised university

    Application Period: 10 February (9:00 am) – 31 May 2017

    Application Procedure:

    Step 1
