Course Description Robotics is a continuously emerging field that is getting more and more common in our society. This module introduces students to the basic concepts and state-of-the-art technologies in robotics. A range of different case studies, such as medical robots, service robots and disaster response, will be presented and discussed to show the benefits, influence and impact robots have on us. Through hands-on exercises with simple robotic systems, the significance of technologies, logic and algorithms in robotics can be appreciated.
Course Content The content in this course include:

  1. introduction to what robotics is and its applications in different areas
  2. application of sensors and actuators in robotics, including calibration
  3. fundamentals in the kinematics and trajectory generation of robot manipulators
Learning Outcomes Upon the completion of the course, students should have achieved the following outcomes:

  1. increase appreciation and understanding on the significance of robotics to the society and its applications;
  2. gain hands-on experience with robotic manipulators;
  3. appreciate the use of mathematics and physics within robotics and engineering;
  4. learn to calibrate sensors and actuators;
  5. apply kinematics analysis and trajectory generation on the robot manipulators to perform different types of motion.
