Exploring Hong Kong: From Preservation of Cultural Heritage to Fostering Creativity in Urban Landscapes (ARTS-T1)

In a world marked by rapid urbanization, where more than half of the world’s population resides in cities, the highspeed development and growth of cities can be a threat to our cultural heritage and communities. There is a pressing need to preserve our cultural heritage and provide space for nurturing creative communities.

In collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, the two meticulously designed courses will take you on a journey to explore Hong Kong. You will gain an understanding of how Hong Kong is both preserving its cultural heritage and cultivating dynamic creative communities. Equip yourself in the theories that underpin these efforts, and venture into the vibrant streets of this city to witness firsthand the transformative power of cultural preservation and creative urban development.

ARTS1007 – Creative Cities and Urban Cultural Life

You will examine how the creation of a vibrant creative economy and the establishment of cultural industries contribute to social well-being, intercultural dialogue, and the transformation of urban spaces. By exploring the interface between culture, urban space, and the economy, you will gain insights into the evolving cultural landscape of Hong Kong.
